I, for a long time have not had an understanding of what all the office has to do. I know that this is their job, and for the most part things are ran smoothly. I also know I have contributed to jokes and probably still will because that is who I am and I mean no harm as I think most people don't.
But some things just need to be understood about the office. And this is my opinion only, but maybe someone will understnad what I am talking about.
We all know that schedules will not come out till the weekend before the session starts, but we all (including me at some point) have asked when schedules are coming up as early as the week before.
Same goes for any tournaments (Prelims/Finals), brackets won't be out till the week of the tournament. Happens everytime, but we all ask over and over.
Dates of tournaments, this will always be a problem because everyone has different schedules and you will never make everybody happy. But they have to set a date and plan out the schedule accordingly. Maybe there are some things that can be looked at, but when they schedule it, all we can do is plan our time around it if possible.
Skill levels, unless there is a camera on the table (which can never work as talked about before) or someone from the office is policing every match in person, they will never see the actual match, therefore all they can go by is the computer and what we input on our scoresheets, but yet there is always someone calling someone else a CHEATger. Most everyone that plays pool knows they are out there, but not every one does it. So mark your paperwork honestly and leave it up to the computer. They system will not change, we just have to live with it.
I know I joke about things and like I said I probably still will, life is about having fun. We need to realize certain aspects of this league we play in. This is a recreational sport, one that is meant to have fun and maybe learn the game of pool. You form friendships and sometimes enemy's but that's life, it will happen. Ultimately, this is not our job. This does not pay our bills. We should be having fun with a sport that can get you to Vegas, but also can give you a break from life and all the bad things that happen.
I for one know the downfalls of life, but pool gives me an out. Here lately I have thought about cutting back or possibly taking time off period. Call if being burned out or what have you, but something was different. But I have come to the conclusion, that I need pool, I need my relationships with my pool family. They help more than they know sometimes at coping with life!
To end, I would like for everyone to just sit back and be patient, the office does a great job at offering help and support for this league. No I am not trying to brown nose or anything close to that, I have just realized that life is more important than worrying about small things!
Have fun and make friends and love the game we all love to play!

I also would like to chime in on Chuck's Blog. I think it was very well worded and comes across as a wake up call to the Office. quote: We all know that schedules will not come out till the weekend before the session starts, but we all (including me at some point) have asked when schedules are coming up as early as the week before.
-- Here is where software comes in. The website can not show more than one session at a time. So you have a choice...either show the playoff schedules or the new schedules. Since I rarely receive all the team registrations ahead of time, I choose to show the Playoff schedules.
quote: Same goes for any tournaments (Prelims/Finals), brackets won''t be out till the week of the tournament. Happens everytime, but we all ask over and over.
-- Did you know that we just received the last of the playoff matches in the office Yesterday? Either way, you are right. I will make a concerted effort to post the Prelims Schedules this week...thanks for the advice.
quote: So mark your paperwork honestly and leave it up to the computer.
-- Hear Hear. It takes 2 teams to Cheat our system...One that actually does it and one that lets them get away with it. Please mark Non Offensive shots as Defensive Shots and all will be well. I personally review each and every player each week they play, even when I am on Vacation (I log into the Office Remotely)
Thank you for understanding how much work we do so you all can have fun...We really do work hard. Everyone from our Drivers(Mickey, Tiger, Roger and me), to the Events & Tournaments coordinator (Angel), to The Office Staff(Becca and me) and all of our area managers (Bill, Tom, Scott, Marguerite, and Susan) |

| Wasn't really going for a wake up call for the office but more of a wake up call to everyone else including myself that sometimes we just need to be patient. I am sure along the way there are some things you can change or do better but some are just the way they have to be....like schedules! |

| Awesome posting Chuck...you got it so right. As long as we let pool be in our lives and not BECOME our life, we should be able to remember that there are things more important than the prize (Vegas)... such as the friendships and bonds we have formed. Don't get me wrong, I am just as competitive are the next person (which is also why I love playing in this league - it's a good place for me to direct that part of me) but, pool is also an outlet for me....an escape from the everyday worries in life. |
