Trophies, What are They Good For?

I have been thinking about this for a while now and after the last awards "event/tourney" I thought I would finally rant about it. Why do we need so many trophies and plaques? Most of the members in the Triad APA do not attend the awards ceremony. Even less members care about receiving trophies or plaques. I am suggesting that the Triad APA cut down on the amount of trophies handed out, and I mean to the minimum.

Finals winners
Session winners*
Big Dawg

*(Regular season, not playoffs, any team can get wild card draw and win 2 matches)

Forget the plaques, the names are on the trophies and most of the trophies sit at the bar and collect dust. If you forget what team you played on that won anything, then you can visit the bar, drink a beer and reminisce, heck make it a team reunion and have fun with it. The bar would appreciate the business.

Now, what to do with the money not spent on trophies and plaques? I believe it should be given to the Ladies Division. This is a great division for the ladies in the Triad to be involved in and be able to play. The winners to Vegas this past time did not get the $8,000 per team to go. Since it is a smaller division the funds are not as much, but not buying all the trophies and plaques would help them. I am sure an amount more wouldn't hurt with flight and hotel.

Why am I am pushing for the ladies division? The ladies division can recruit the low ranks that have never played. When they found out how much they like pool they will look for other nights to play on and will look for other teams during the week. Now all divisions win with new players coming in. It is getting very difficult to find new low rank players now a days.

This is the end of my rant. Now remember this is my "Blog" and only my opinion. If you don't like it, I don't care. If you do like it, then I probably still won't care.

And no, I haven't been drinking... yet.

Why is everybody so angry about every little thing now a days. If everybody wants it their way, then go to Burger King.

Quit crying about it and either do something about it or relieve yourself from the situation.

If everyone would pay more attention to themselves and hold themsevles to the standards they expect everyone else to adhere to, then the world would be a better place (at least in the Triad APA).

All I hear now a days is:
Why did I go up?
Why didn't they go up?
Why can't the league do this?
Why can't the bar do that?
Why can't I play?
Why is the sky blue?
Why is water wet?
Why, why, why?

It sounds so much like cry, cry, cry.

And for people that know me; no, I haven't been drinking.

First off I am new to the league, Amber and myself have only been here for 3 or 4 sessions. We lucked out and have been on an awesome team with awesome players that are teaching us the different monster that is APA. So now we are qualified for the finals in 8 and 9-ball, yea us!
I love this sport and my time with my fellow players. Pool really gives us a chance to get out of the house for a few hours. After working a job all week that I would rather not it helps to blow off some steam.

I guess the point of this initial blog is thank you for accepting us into the league and keep it fun![8]

Well its been a while since I have updated my Blog, so its well over due. I have been stressing the past few weeks over everything that needs to be done; thankfully it is almost over and everything is almost done...

We received over 350 shirts from a group buy that i did with some other LO in other areas. So now its time to decide what to do with them...any suggestions?

Looks like tournamnet time is just around the corner and that will keep me busy as well.

I have been out every night this week, sometimes to GSO, or Davidson County, High Point and Alamance County. Looks like I need to go to WS and K'Ville next time I am out.

Like always at the start of the session, there have been complaints about schedules and divisions..I try hard to make everyone happy, but alas, I cannot.

On a personal note, it was Zoe's birthday this last tue. We went out to lunch at a restaurant of her choice. Thank goodness we did lunch because that night one of my drivers called in so I had to do their rounds. Today we are having her birthday party and as I type there are 6 girls downstairs just giggling and laughing.

Looks like it will be business as usual Sunday...thank goodness for Becca. She is great on the phones and is fast as hell. That should give me a break to get the trophy order done, Accounting for the business, Payroll and hopefully the Prelims Board. Then its time to start working on awards, all while trying to fill all these BYES...ahhhh the work never stops...

So long for now...back to bithday party.

Understanding the Office

I, for a long time have not had an understanding of what all the office has to do. I know that this is their job, and for the most part things are ran smoothly. I also know I have contributed to jokes and probably still will because that is who I am and I mean no harm as I think most people don't.

But some things just need to be understood about the office. And this is my opinion only, but maybe someone will understnad what I am talking about.

We all know that schedules will not come out till the weekend before the session starts, but we all (including me at some point) have asked when schedules are coming up as early as the week before.

Same goes for any tournaments (Prelims/Finals), brackets won't be out till the week of the tournament. Happens everytime, but we all ask over and over.

Dates of tournaments, this will always be a problem because everyone has different schedules and you will never make everybody happy. But they have to set a date and plan out the schedule accordingly. Maybe there are some things that can be looked at, but when they schedule it, all we can do is plan our time around it if possible.

Skill levels, unless there is a camera on the table (which can never work as talked about before) or someone from the office is policing every match in person, they will never see the actual match, therefore all they can go by is the computer and what we input on our scoresheets, but yet there is always someone calling someone else a CHEATger. Most everyone that plays pool knows they are out there, but not every one does it. So mark your paperwork honestly and leave it up to the computer. They system will not change, we just have to live with it.

I know I joke about things and like I said I probably still will, life is about having fun. We need to realize certain aspects of this league we play in. This is a recreational sport, one that is meant to have fun and maybe learn the game of pool. You form friendships and sometimes enemy's but that's life, it will happen. Ultimately, this is not our job. This does not pay our bills. We should be having fun with a sport that can get you to Vegas, but also can give you a break from life and all the bad things that happen.

I for one know the downfalls of life, but pool gives me an out. Here lately I have thought about cutting back or possibly taking time off period. Call if being burned out or what have you, but something was different. But I have come to the conclusion, that I need pool, I need my relationships with my pool family. They help more than they know sometimes at coping with life!

To end, I would like for everyone to just sit back and be patient, the office does a great job at offering help and support for this league. No I am not trying to brown nose or anything close to that, I have just realized that life is more important than worrying about small things!

Have fun and make friends and love the game we all love to play!

"RULE THE GAME, DON'T LET THE GAME RULE YOU!"

Well, Saturday came and went. We had 15 people in the tournament but, the most important thing was that we collected 2 huge trash bags full of toys. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

The winner of the tournament was Shawn D-ickens. John Davis was the runner-up. We played 8 ball, double elimination (full races) and everyone seemed to have a good time. It was a good evening.
